Bowls made with brown clay glazed with matte and glossy white glaze. Heavy iron content creates the specks in the glaze. Bottom is unglazed.

I had a time sensitive project due and since I was rushing everything I decided to make three pieces in the hopes that one would turn out ok. Because even when you’re not rushing something inevitably goes awry. So what happened? The frog container with the celadon glaze stuck together and I couldn’t get the lid off. It broke when it finally separated. The frog handle came out exactly as I wanted of course but it was useless as a container.

The frog container with the turquoise glaze the sculpted frog completely cracked in two. The rest of the piece came out well of course. It was a great container but the main focal point was ruined.

I got one good container which is in my previous posts.

So… when I’m rushing 1 out of 3 is likely my success rate.

Really? *sigh*

Beh beh turtle hatchlings. The Behler Chelonian Center is a part of a Turtle Conservatory.

Too bad they are not open to the general public but at least a place like this exists.

Check out more hatchling photos here: Behler Chelonian Center hatchlings.

The late Shiga Shigeo’s beautiful round pot. His works are always so simple and he created many beautiful glazes. This one seems almost gem-like.

Andersen Studio’s Wren. This little guy amazed me when I first saw a photo of it. The form, use of clay and slip to create texture. When I had the chance to buy it I jumped on it.

They are also on Etsy.

Concept art from Studio Ghibli’s latest animated feature “From Up on Poppy Hill”. I could stare at this all day.

Stare at this for 20-30 seconds at the center then look at something else. Your brain struggles to counter the motion and that effects lingers. Stare at your face in the mirror or a friend to see it squirm around.

Two new owls from the firing. One barn owl and one turquoise owl. The turquoise owl has spotting that was unexpected but adds an interesting patina. Both are thrown, altered, carved porcelain. These are quick iphone photos. Better ones coming soon.

Michael Wisner Pottery. He studied southwestern pottery techniques and adapted his own works. Beautifully simple but precise technique. Lovely work.
